This footage was taken during an undercover investigation at Torbay Turkeys in Devon on 3rd December 2007.

Most turkeys are intensively farmed inside large, overcrowded and dirty sheds. If you look closely, you can see that the turkeys' beaks have been 'trimmed' - a common practice in intensive farming. A red-hot blade is used to slice off the ends of their beaks. The aim? To prevent the highly stressed birds from damaging one another in the overcrowded conditions. The turkeys can suffer chronic pain for 2-6 weeks after de-beaking. Aggression still occurs, however, which can be seen from their feather-pecked bodies. They also suffer from deformed feet and legs, caused by inappropriate flooring, lack of free movement and their ballooning weight. Also notice the dead and dying birds - a common occurrence in factory farms.
